From a young age, Maarten Groen developed a great passion for horses. What began with lessons at a riding school grew, via a leased pony, into keeping and training his own horses. His love of equestrian sport still forms the basis of his vision: a professional training environment in which performance and horse welfare go hand in hand.
Following his training in Nijkerk and Barneveld, Maarten gained valuable practical experience working with renowned figures in the equestrian sector, including Stal Boomzaaier, Edwin Hoogeraat and Rob Ehrens. He was also a co-founder of Hydro Horses, where he focused on innovative training and recovery methods, such as aqua training and laser therapy. This broad experience gives him an in-depth understanding of the training, care and development of sport horses.
In 2025, Maarten took over Het Kleef Training Centre with a clear ambition: to create a training centre where riders and horses can train at the highest level in a professional, safe and welcoming environment. Since then, the stables, training facilities, paddocks and tack rooms have been fully modernised and tailored to the needs of today’s competitive riders.
As an active rider himself, Maarten understands better than anyone what riders need to perform at their best. He enjoys working closely with every client and ensures that both national and international riders feel at home.
With his personalised approach, years of experience and passion for the sport, Maarten is committed every day to creating the best possible conditions for horse and rider. His aim is clear: to support every pair in achieving their sporting ambitions, whatever their level.
Niels has been riding since he was six. What began as riding ponies grew into a great passion for horses and equestrian sport. Over the years, he has developed into a dedicated rider with extensive practical experience in training, caring for and managing sport horses.
After completing his vocational qualification in Commerce, Niels started working for a company that specialises in training and preparing approved stallions for inspection. There, he was responsible for the day-to-day care, training and preparation of stallions for inspection and competition. This period gave him a solid foundation in professional stable management, equine health and performance-oriented working practices.
In addition, he co-ordinated horse transport within the Netherlands and abroad. As a result, he has gained extensive experience in the logistics involved in the transport of international sport horses.
As an active show jumper, Niels knows from personal experience what it takes for horse and rider to perform at their best. He is known for his practical approach, dedication and attention to detail. Every day, Niels is committed to making life as easy as possible for riders. His greatest passion is show jumping. The combination of technique, trust and partnership between horse and rider continues to motivate him every day.
Maarten and Niels are the faces of Het Kleef Training Centre, where personal attention, quality and horse welfare are paramount.
